Always thought they were severely underrated. Harold was pretty funny when I'd see him when they'd show up on The Nashville Network back in the day. Plus, they appeared with Cash at San Quentin, with Carl Perkins on guitar and Merle Haggard in the audience.

Shit. This was Mom’s favorite singing group.

My mom's, too. I scored major points with my parents back in the day when the Statlers opened for Johnny Cash at the local coliseum, and I got them tickets. I kicked myself years later that I didn't go, too.

You'll like this one, then. ... And was there a better bass voice than Harold Reid's?

They seemed like such a sedate group - but this song is so sarcastic and funny - also one of their biggest hits.

I saw The Statler Brothers in either 79 or 80.
One of the great vocal performances of all time is them singing How Great Thou Art.
I was honestly more of an Oak Ridge Boys fan.
Contrast vocal groups like that to acts today. It's a sad fall. No, they didn't have the flash and floor show. People just got up and sang.

I'm a big fan of I'll Fly Away. Can't find the live version.
