Have the few writers who didn't vote for Aaron as a first-ballot HOFer ever been identified? I mean 97.5 percent is great, but....the eight with a better percentage were not better than Aaron, nor more important to the game.

Tyler Kepner had a crazy tidbit -- of the 10 Hall of Famers who have died in the last 10 months, Joe Torre was a teammate with five of them.

Always thought it interesting how Ruth and Aaron both ended their MLB careers playing briefly for a team in the same city (but different league) as where they began.

Rogers Hornsby and Jimmie Foxx did as well, with unique circumstances. Hornsby played for more than a decade with the Cardinals, bounced around to the Giants, Braves and Cubs, and ended up with the Browns as their player-manager.

Foxx was with the A’s in Philly, went to the Red Sox in Connie Mack’s Depression-era salary purge, was with the Cubs briefly, and finished with the Phillies as a pitcher.

And that they both signed with the Boston Braves.

Incidental information: It was the Braves home opener. That morning, all of the Atlanta papers announced their baseball writers were no longer allowed to be official scorers. The Braves went to the Dodgers press corps and there were two -- Bob Hunter and Gordon Verrell. Chopper and Gordo flipped a coin. Gordo won and got Games 1 and 3. Chopper got Games 2 and 4.
The official scorecard in the Hall of Fame is signed by Verrell.

With Hank gone, Willie Mays is no doubt the greatest living ball player. Who’s No. 2? Bench? Rose? Rickie? Reggie? Do pitchers like Koufax, Maddux and Pedro get consideration? Is Pujols top 10?
