RIP F117-A stealth fighter

    Materiel? Simple design? if it's the latter, then that would explain its reliability, no?

    Simple design, and the majority of the people who use it don't care if it's made of cheap, stamped metal, etc.

    Don't forget the ridiculously short production time of a stamped metal gun (AK) over a milled firearm.

    Standard Soviet design. Make it cheap, make a lot of 'em, and when it breaks just replace it with another one.

    Other than the German Sturmgewher, which it was loosely based on, the AK was also one of the first true assault rifles that combined high firepower and decent range. I'd guess one of the reasons the AR-15 and M-16 were developed was to counter it.
