I liked McHale's Navy as much as anyone. But "Marty" was a beautiful movie.

Apparently in Ethel Merman's biography, she has a chapter titled Ernest Borgnine. The next page is blank. The next page begins the next chapter.

As long as Phil Collins goes there too when the time comes.

Seriously, R.I.P. to a guy who, like Shatner, proudly embraced his kitsch factor. And is the poster Abe Vigoda away or something??

In addition to all of his great acting roles, we must not overlook his memorable voiceover parts as well:
The Brain's father in "Pinky & the Brain"
    and
    Mermaid Man in "Spongebob Squarepants"

I don't think this warrants a Vigoda since a previous poster mentioned that Borgnine was older than Vigoda. But I could be wrong.

Whatever the case, I do like Bumpy's take.

Unlike Shatner, Borgnine was a frontline actor for much of the 50s, 60s and into the early 70s. Borgnine's kitsch years came later.

After watching EB in Willard, I couldn't stand to watch another show with him in it! 95? Wow, great innings, Ernie.

I think it won him a Emmy for best guest appearance or something.

    EDIT: Nominated. Didn't win.

His role in Marty was fine, but for real acting, check out two of his bad-guy roles - From Here To Eternity and Bad Day At Black Rock. Tremendous.
