Eddie Fisher, whose matinee-idol looks and big baritone voice made him one of the most popular singers of the 1950s, and whose busy love life stole headlines in 1959 when he divorced Debbie Reynolds to marry Elizabeth Taylor, died on Wednesday at his home in Berkeley, Calif. He was 82.

And don't forget that he's Princess Leia's dad.

I read today in an obit that Carrie reportedly threatened to change her last name to Reynolds in protest of a book he wrote that just savaged her mother.

    Anyway, RIP.

Carrie Fisher was in a movie called the Aristocrats a few years ago, and for those unfamiliar with the concept, it is basically an excuse to tell really dirty jokes. For various reasons my EIC was wondering about the controversy and I had to explain why it was considered dirty: Here is how the conversation went in a staff meeting at a very well respected magazine:

EIC: "I want to know one of these 'dirty jokes"
Me: "Carrie Fisher talks about her mother enjoying Golden Showers.
EIC: "What is dirty about showers.
Me: "Um, golden showers is a term for pissing one someone else. So, Carrie was saying Debbie Reynolds -- America's sweetheart-- got sexual gratification from being urinated on her."
EIC: "Well, no wonder Eddie dumped her ass.

    I really loved that EIC.

Actually, cycling, The Aristocrats is about ONE joke ... the dirtiest joke ever, supposedly, only told among comedians, with many different versions by many different comedians.

Splitting hairs, but I know what you are saying about the plot. The premise is to tell the most vile jokes possible hence the punchline being 'that's why they call it it the Aristocrats. And for the record, I can't watch Disney's Aristocats without thinking of Sara Silverman's bit.

Or Bob Saget's. Or Andy Richter telling the joke in a soft voice to his infant son.
