The Flat and Scruggs version of "Down in the Flood" is the best I ever heard. Hands down.

Somewhere -- maybe the New Yorker -- Steve Martin recently wrote a nice piece about his relationship with Scruggs.

    Found it: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/culture/2012/01/steve-martin-earl-scruggs.html

Also the original voice of Betty Rubble, for the first several seasons of "The Flintstones."

RIP, Earl. One of the best.

And not to threadjack, but how freaking talented of a person is Steve Martin? Good enough to be a professional musician on the banjo, at one time the very hottest standup comedian in the world and one incredibly talented actor.
