RIP Don Kirshner

    UPDATE: Paul Shaffer did a bit of the Kirshner impression on Tuesday's "Late Show," at Letterman's request. The band also played Kirshner-related music on the breaks.

    albert is absolutely right - Kirshner's instincts, ears, mind, etc., were incredible.

    Not to be outdone by his creation of The Monkees, he brought an even more fake band to life a couple of years later - The Archies.

    Don Kirshner was a devoted family man and one of the more humane power-brokers of the first decade of rock 'n' roll, tho the Monkees might not agree. Rock Concert wasn't as consistently good as Midnight Special, but was perhaps more ecletic (a whole show of Tony Orlando, sans Dawn, in concert?) R.I.P.
