RIP Don Hewitt

  1. Actually, I think (and far be it for me to speak for Birdscribe) when he made the Zelig reference, he was actually referring solely of the fact that Hewitt was around everything.

    But you ARE correct in that Hewitt wasn't a mere passenger.

    FotF, note the qualifier on my statement. Hewitt was Zeligesque in that he was -- as you aptly pointed out -- steering the ship at some of the most famous/iconic moments in mid-20th century television news.

    Hence the qualifier. He was there with a purpose.

    60 Minutes, for all its thru-the-years ups and downs, is a damn fine show.
