We said goodbye to a good friend and mentor today.

Dick Trajnowski, who spent more than 30 years covering sports for the Jackson Citizen Patriot, died Saturday night at Allegiance Hospital after suffering a stroke earlier in the evening. He was 74.

Dick was a great guy who taught me and a number of other young reporters the ins and outs of covering auto racing long before it was considered popular. You hear people talk about someone being quiet and down to earth. They were talking about Dick.

    He will be missed.

Damn, I didn't know about this. He was a friend, a good journalist -- never missed a race at MIS -- and just a real good person. I am sad tonight.
