Awful, just awful. Been on the phone for the better part of an hour now talking to people about this and I feel like I have been hit by a ton of bricks. RIP to a great journalist and a great guy. We have too few real characters in this world and David was one in the best sense of the word. I don't get to the track hardly at all anymore but I'll miss him when I do. I'll miss his contributions here.
    Prayers to his family.

Terrible news. I remember him making more than a couple of college classes more interesting with his comedy in class. Very sad to hear.

A say day for the NASCAR family, indeed. Poole was a legend. I have seen a bunch of ESPN Classic bios on the sport, and Poole was in every one.

    RIP.

David was a nice fellow. Was this a sudden thing, or had he been ailing?

    How old was he?

Damn... Definitely one of the best racing writers around.

    RIP

Words cannot describe feelings right now (and to think I'm a journalist).

All I can say is my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

One helluva journalist, but more importantly, one helluva guy.

I ask this delicately, and out of UTMOST respect, but was Poole not a rather large man?

    Yes.

Charlotte and That's Racin sites have a lot of his work up, some commentary on the finish at Talladega. This was sudden. He was working this a.m., was on here this a.m. as someone noted. Interviewed Richmond track president today.
