Wasn't sure if this should go here, or in Anything Goes, but David Mills - former reporter for both the Washington Post and Washington Times, and an Emmy-winning TV writer who contributed to many SportsJournalists.com faves, including Homicide, NYPD Blue, ER and The Corner - died yesterday of a brain aneurysm at age 48. He was currently working on HBO's Treme, which is due to premiere in two weeks.

Heartbreaking. Sepinwall, who considered Mills a friend, with a nice tribute.

A terrible, terrible way to go.

(are there any "good" ways to go?)

    RIP.

If possible, I want to go like my grandfather did - peacefully, in his sleep.

Not screaming in terror, like his passengers.

    ;D

Sorry, I had to. RIP, Mr. Mills.

Honestly, I'd never heard of this person before today.
He sounds like a really talented and intelligent guy and I'm sure this is a great loss to many people beyond his immediate family.
Condolences to all who knew him and RIP, David Mills.

    Saw this today.
    just 48.
dumb question but was he white or black? Photo of him on poynter made him look whiter than me.
yet the tributes kept calling him black.

This is just flat-out as sad a thing as I can imagine. A wonderful voice stilled. At 48.

    A very nice tribute.

Mills wrote the teleplay for "Soft Eyes" in season 4 of The Wire and was an extensive contributor in season 5.

I read a story yesterday indicating he was black, noting he was light-skinned.
