And if you have a hankering for more math in your life (and, really, who doesn't?), try "Everything and More: A Compact History of Infinity." Only David Foster Wallace could make this subject somewhat understandable -- and still be funny as hell.

To confuse things further, moddy, there are the short story collections "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men," and "Girl with Curious Haircut," although I wasn't sure if you're a short story guy. DFW also has a co-authored McCain book out, but I've not read it.

Add: Forgot his 2005 short story collection, "Oblivion."

I'm pretty sure DFW's McCain piece is simply the expanded version of the Rolling Stone piece that appears in Consider the Lobster under the title "Up, Simba." It's kind of similar to how "Brokeback Mountain" was made into a separate book when the movie came out, even though it had appeared in a previously published collection, Close Range.

It's from the 2000 campaign, right?

Thanks, DD. Sorry for the confusion. Just ran over to Amazon and looked at it. I guess they've padded it a bit with a foreword by Jacob Weisberg. June 1, 2008 pub date.

I now own the non-fiction titles listed here. Thanks.

You're the better for it, moddy, believe me.

DFW was one of the best writers of nonfiction working. An amazing talent. Reinvigorated the form.

A huge loss to us all.
