Chuck Newman, long-time Philadelphia Inquirer sports writer and an awesome guy, died tonight. He was 79.

Been a tough time in Philly. We've lost Phil Jasner, Larry O'Rourke, Jeff Offord and now Chuck ... all Hall of Fame guys, total pros and class acts.

Reuben only scratched the surface when talking about Chuck.
Chuckles made you laugh. He was extremely funny and he was also very good. Knew his subject matter extremely well and was a pro's pro.
    RIP Chuck.

I was shocked that Chuck was 79. He seemed much younger.

Chuck was the kind of guy who would email you if you wrote something he enjoyed. Very thoughtful. I'll miss him.
