Chevy is dead, reports NYT. Shocker.

Not quite. GM just wants to do away with "Chevy" as a nickname for Chevrolet for branding purposes. Which is a really silly idea.

Edit: It occurred post-post that my sarcasm sensors were malfunctioning. My bad, TV.

With all the problems facing GM and it focuses on this?

Tells us what we need to know about the "thinking" at GM.

I'd rather they bury the "Caddy" nickname.

I should have used the blue font.

Best part of the story is the Chevy-rolet guy saying branding is important, look at "Coke."

    Douche.

Was I the only one who thought Chevy Chase when I first saw the topic headline?

"Look at Coke, look at Apple."

Yeah, dumbass. Who knew Coke was short for Coca-Cola? And that no one calls any of Apple's products an Apple?

If this guy really thinks people are just going to up and quit saying Chevy, he's an idiot. No wonder they can't build a decent car anymore.

Chevy is a term of endearment. Brand engagement. Sounds like somebody's micro-managing the life out of the brand. They should leave it the fuck alone.

Here's a better idea: Develop a sturdy and economical four-cylinder car and, as far as marketing goes, don't call it a Chevette.

Thanks GM! You just gave me one more reason to stick with Chrysler...
