I know who he is largely because of Carolla's radio show and podcast where they made fun of the guy all the time... Dana Gould does a spot-on impression of the guy.

He was a part of the fabric of California as far as I was concerned.

    RIP.

Also heard of him through Carolla's show, then watched a few YouTube clips. Huell Howser's genuine enthusiasm for anything was incredible. I can only imagine what he'd be like floating above his casket at the funeral.
"Wow! Is that real mahogany!? That is lovely! Hold on ... hold on ... I'm dead? Oh, wow! That is a-MAZ-ing!!!"

Plus, as Carolla and Dana Gould picked up on, whoever he's interviewing has absolutely no interest in what's going on. "Yeah Huell, to be honest, we used your casket on about 10 guys before you, we just dig them up and re-use them."

He was beloved in Nashville, where he got his start back in the day.

The clip of him at the Mad Greek restaurant is just legendary. They've played that clip on Carolla's show multiple times and I'm sure it's there on YouTube...

The one with the picture of Burt Lancaster? I thought it was the Baghdad Cafe in Newberry Springs.

Then there was the old man with the bucket of gravel.
