I'm personally very sad to hear about the passing of one of the good guys in baseball. Bruce Dal Canton was that and more. Always friendly and loved teaching. He had the ear of younger guys and knew how to reach them. He will be missed.

Leo Mazzone always got all the credit, but John Smoltz and Tom Glavine first developed into all-star caliber pitchers under Dal Canton. Highly respected in the Braves' organization.

You're sort of right. Bruce got them there and kept them. Leo polished them off. Back then the Braves had a good system with the minor and major leagues working together. Leo and Bruce worked very well together.
