Tony award winning dancer and actress Ann Reinking has died of natural causes at 71. She started as a dancer in the chorus line on Broadway in shows such as Caberet and Pippen, and worked her way up to featured roles in shows such as Goodtime Charlie with Joel Grey, as Roxie Hart in Chicago, in Dancin' and Sweet Charity, and played a version of herself in Bob Fosse's All That Jazz. She was Fosse's lover and muse, and became the keeper of his choreography style after his death.

The lights on Broadway are dimmer today, or would be if they were on anyhow.

It's too bad she's mostly known as Fosse's partner. Like Gwen Verdon, she was a talent on her own. I still can't forget Phil Collins bitching about her singing Against All Odds at the Oscars. The kid in the clip got the part because Fosse was interviewing young dancers and she was the only one who when he asked the kids to light a cigarette, lit it by holding it with her thumb and forefingers instead of the middle and index.

    Forgot that one.

I can't help but wonder how strange and painful it must have been for her doing All That Jazz, given that she was essentially playing herself and her relationship with Fosse, as well as seeing Fosse/Virdon come out, with those events filtered through Sam Wasson's biography of Fosse.
