    Riggs could secretly make bets against himself. Holzhauer couldn't, seeing as nobody knew about his winning streak as it was actually happening.

    I don’t see how you could assume he threw it when he amassed more than $23,000 before Final Jeopardy. His final bet made perfect sense for a middle player in a three-contender game.

    Exactly. He had no other option than to play FJ the way he did. He knew Emma was a smart player and understood strategy perfectly. She played it right, too - she wagered enough that if James had bet it all and they both got it right, she still would have won. James knew she'd do that, so he had to go another play - wager enough to block out the other guy and hope that Emma not only wagered large (as she should) but also had a wrong response.

    No way he threw it. He played FJ the right way for where he was at.
