    Years ago, when the men's soccer Final Four was in Richmond for four years, I did a weekly national notebook. One of my bigger notes was on Alabama State, which at one point had a decent soccer program.

    New coach comes in to find out old coach didn't even check eligibility on recruits and most of his roster. When new coach did, he found most weren't even close. Conference threatened the school with all kinds of shit if they just dropped the team, so he was reduced to going to dorms and knocking on doors on game days to find enough players.

    Lack of institutional oversight, I believe it is called.
