Garbage in, garbage out. WREK, WABE, WRFG, and WRAS is all I need.

As far as radio stations go, that was a good one. I used to like it a lot more (I guess my tastes have slightly changed), but it was still one of the top rock stations in the South.

That was about all I could stand to listen to, up until I got my XM the Christmas before leaving Georgia. But even Dave FM had started slashing the playlist by the time I left in summer of 06. Overall, Atlanta radio is the greatest inspiration for satellite radio ever.

Just saw that Cumulus bought 99X.

Heaven needed a corporate outlet with a 20-song rotation.

Cumulus bought 99X from Susquehanna a couple of years ago.
The writing's been on the wall over the recent months for 99X, which, at one time, was a very good station.
The way they treated Steve Craig, the middays guy who had the great Retroplex hour from noon to 1, was despicable. Made radio seem even more loathsome than print as far as treating people and product.
Does this mean 24 hours a day of The Bert Show on 99X? Think I'll pass.

I was in the fo'-oh'-fo' when 99x hit the airwaves.

A total breath of fresh air in Atlanta radio. I thought that radio station would be invincible.

    Whoops.

Guess the Georgia State radio station's gonna get back some listeners now. That was also a great station.

You may luck out. Since, as the AJC is reporting, 99X is going to switch to a rock format similar to what 96 Rock was, LiveX and Big Day Out may live on in some form.

I remember this station well. It was a Top 40.

If you've got some time, go here: http://www.reelradio.com/1999.html#top99x74-1

It's a countdown of the top 100 songs from 1974, broadcast on New Year's Eve of 1974 on 99X. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the full songs, just the beginning and end of each, but the in-studio commentary is hilarious. They even read the first report of Catfish Hunter signing with the Yankees.

Not me, man. I'm on the other coast now. :D

Anyway, won't be the same. An era has ended.
