This is George Karl's fault for not taking his starters out of the game.

Just think guys, the New Jersey Nets will soon become the Brooklyn Nets........Shit.

  6. But nobody's charged with discharging a firearm, which is a substantial felony, just with disorderly conduct, which is the equivalent of what you get for urinating off a bridge. I'd like to see a follow-up story on the mayhem.

It happens outside of girls basketball games too.

One paper simply reported it as:

Police and arena officials went into lockdown mode following the Trenton-University (Newark) game when, according to officers outside the venue, a melee broke out between the cheerleaders of both schools and other bystanders.

The incident began inside the arena before spilling outside, with torn pompoms and jewelry strewn throughout the outer concourse.

There were no immediate reports of any arrests.

    Another paper reported:
Emotions erupted at the conclusion of last night’s NJSIAA Tournament of Champions girls basketball final between Trenton and University at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Rival fans could be seen screaming at each other in the stands after University’s 68-62 overtime victory. Apparently, things got worse once the fans reached the parking lot.

According to New Jersey state police sergeant Stephen Jones, a total of eight patrols from state police offices in nearby Bloomfield, Newark and Totowa had to be called in as backup to arena police and security personnel to quell the disturbances.

At one point, security personnel were not letting anyone enter or exit the building. Jones, however, had no information on whether any arrests were made.

"You get fights, unfortunately even when there are adults at adult events," Jones said. "When you take the emotions of kids, it becomes that much more volatile."

Jones said the state police stayed after the girls game to monitor the boys game between St. Patrick’s and Bloomfield Tech and to serve as a deterrent to any potential disturbances.
