I have a brother-in-law over there, and he's supposed to be in a safe zone, but I still cringe every time I see a story like this.

What's your point trying to call people out in a thread title? Makes it sound like your goal isn't really to inform people of the situation and start a debate, but to make a political point through the death of these soldiers. In other words, it gives the appearance that you're exploiting this tragedy just to tweak people you don't agree with. You should be proud.

"Making a political point through the death of the soldiers."
Boy, that's not a charge anyone supporting the clusterfuckery of this administration ought ro ross around loosely.

Of course, before the hostilities began in Iraq, one side of the debate was arguing that tens of thousands of American soldiers would die before the government of Saddam Hussein could be toppled.

In fact, one side made that same argument twice.

    Wrong both times.

I have no reason to believe that their grasp of the strategic or tactical situation has improved any since then.

Who said this? A liberal, or the strawman you just built?

Claiming the "strawman" -- usually a solid sign of someone who fears the facts and wants to divert.

Uh, the burden of facts is on the person who made the claim.

So bring it. Please to find me all of these liberals who said that "tens of thousands" of American soldiers would die in Iraq.
