    This is true.

I think we need a better, shorthand, way of saying what we mean in situations like this.

It's not a "free speech" or "censorship" issue.

But, it does go against the idea of respecting people and ideas we disagree with, and stifles the tradition of universities, in particular, being places where opposing views could aired, and debated.

Is there anything Rutgers can't screw up these days?

That said, commencement speakers are overrated. I can't remember who spoke at mine, just that the weather was horrible and we were thankful that he (she?) gave the abridged version.

Sounds like LeGrand is back on but with relic Tom Keane.
Rutgers could screw up a one car funeral.

LeGrand was a no brainer. What more could you
want in a message for graduates .

The woman who spoke at mine, to this day I consider her a friend.

But, boy, did her speech drone on.

The only bubble Rutgers is going to find itself on in the next decade when it comes to college football will be the one on the verge of getting kicked out of the Big Ten after going, say, 1-47 in its first six years. Indiana and Purdue will side with them, however, because they provide a guaranteed win every couple of years.

They should just cancel commencement, save some coin and mail the diplomas.
