Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by big green wahoo, Jun 11, 2008.

  1. from JJobs.
    Company: The Times-News
    Position: Small Town; Big Sports
    Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: Not Specified
    Ad Expires: July 15, 2008
    Job ID: 935868

    Description:
The Times-News in southern Idaho seeks two talented sports journalists to complete a four-person staff. Both jobs offer the opportunity to write features, columns and game stories. We place a high value on writing about the people who make the games so interesting. Applicants should have sports writing experience and a bachelor’s degree.

Twin Falls is home to the College of Southern Idaho, one of the nation’s elite junior college programs. Our region has more than 30 high schools, hydroplane racing, white-water rafting, golf, hunting, fishing and world-class winter sports.

Why is our 7-day morning newspaper adding staff when others are cutting back? Southern Idaho is growing, and we’re expanding and reorganizing to better match the needs of an increasingly diverse and dynamic region stretching from the Nevada desert to the Sun Valley ski slopes.

Outdoor adventures help make this a great place to live. Lee Enterprises helps make the Times-News a great place to work: We offer competitive pay and excellent benefits, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement, an employee stock purchase plan, gym memberships, paid holidays and vacation. We’re an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. Check out our soon to be redesigned website at www.magicvalley.com, and read about our parent company at www.lee.net.

Very annoying application process on their website. It's something out of the prehistoric age of computers and I didn't even know what to fill out in some of the areas because it wouldn't let you enter certain words or numbers.

  4. Seems like this job opens every three months.

One of their sports reporters became city editor or accepted some management position in the newsroom, I believe, which accounts for one opening.

Maybe it's all for the better. Do you really want to move to Idaho?

I agree Mustang. Idaho is more or less poo. Some good people live there, though.

The January opening was never filled. Hiring freeze was in place.

Been through the town a few times and it is pretty much out by itself. Boise is a good two hours away, so you are pretty much stuck with flat land and what Twin Falls offers. The town has been growing, however, for what it's worth.
