Description:
We are seeking a deadline-oriented individual to assist the sports editor in the development of the Portage Daily Register’s sports section. Responsibilities include writing and editing stories, photographing sports events and layout, and designing and paginating sports pages. This person is expected to coordinate coverage with other Capital Newspapers’ sports departments.
The ideal candidate will have previous sports reporting experience. Experience with newspaper design, layout, and photography is required. Minimum requirements include the ability to write clearly and concisely, the ability to translate complicated facts and information into copy that is readable to the general public, the ability to develop news reports on own initiative and without direction, and news judgment needed to determine what does or does not make a story. The ability to create content for the Web and a comfort using multimedia platforms are a plus. Knowledge of InDesign is a plus. Must have immediate access to transportation for timely story coverage.
