If for no other reason, take this job so you can cover the prison rodeo some great high school football/baseball.

    Description:

Award-winning daily afternoon newspaper in Southeast Oklahoma seeks an experienced and diverse sports writer for our print and online editions. Successful candidate will have experience writing both sports, and be able to navigate digital and visual reporting mediums with ease. We enjoy the best of small town living – three cars backed up at the stop sign constitute a traffic jam here — in the green rolling hills of Oklahoma. But big city life is just an hour in Tulsa, or three hours southbound in Dallas. Lake Eufaula offers great fishing, boating and other recreational opportunities just minutes from our front door; a vocational school and a satellite college campus offer a range of higher education programs. The McAlester News-Capital is the leading news source for Southeast Oklahoma, publishing an award-winning print edition six days each week. We're a CNHI paper and offer competitive pay and an excellent benefits package complete with 401k option. Our team is seasoned, hard-working and dedicated. If this sounds like your type of shop, send sports clips along with your resume and references to: Editor, McAlester News-Capital, 500 S. Second St., McAlester, OK 74501 or kwells@mcalesternews.com.

WHAT?!?!?! This is the most depressing thing I've heard in years. Shows how much attention I've paid to Oklahoma news since leaving the state.

Been to and through McAlester more times than I can count. Not a bad town as far as Oklahoma goes. Right next to Lake Eufala, which is a HUGE lake.

But I stopped reading at CNHI.
