Oh, and any of us sports guys who want to avoid cheerleading competitions should save this link.

"Ma'am, I'm just trying protect the company from any potential lawsuits." :D

Just guessing here, but I'd bet I'm right:

    (a) The images are probably focused on body parts more than the routine.

    (b) The prosecutors know a porn charge will never fly, but it's a starting point to bargain down to lewd conduct, or harassment, or whatever, with a stipulation that he has to stay the hell away from little girls.

  5. Damn, Write, if you're going to post pornography, either label the thread NSFW or link it.

The one on the right looks a bit like David Bowie circa 1973. Except for the huge and possibly fake breasts, of course.

  7. I'm not defending the guy, but 1. no way is this illegal and 2. I can't help but sense a bit of hypocrisy on the part of the schools and parents who allow these girls to show more skin and use racier and racier dance moves and songs every year. Maybe they should look in the mirror.

The guy's a perv and probably should be made to stay away from minors, though I wouldn't hazard a guess about the legality of his actions.

But yes, this is an interesting (however oblique) admission that cheerleading involves sexual titillation. Of course, this is straight out of the No Shit! Book of World Facts, but it's easy to forget that obvious reality sometimes considering how fatuously solemn many high school faculty and parents can be about cheerleading's sancitity as a wholesome part of school sports. Sure it is.

Funny thing was, back when I was in high school, all the kids- from the jocks to the freaks- knew cheerleading was about sex. That's why they only let "hot" chicks on the cheerleading squad. If you were fat or had some other "imperfection" but were determined to cheer on the alma mater, you were relegated to drill team, aka "whore corps" as it was known...an unfair label, I thought, since the cheerleaders were well-known for fucking but were never called such a name, at least not collectively.

There was a case up here where a swim coach was accused of sex abuse for touching his swimmers in a way some fans from a different part of the state found disturbing. The case actually went to trial and he was acquitted. He patted them on the butt and held them with two hands. Parents and his swimmers served as defense witnesses. An off duty cop who was at the meet videotaped the "suspicious" activity. Should he have been arrested?
I don't know the facts of the Sacto case, but given that SI.com has a college cheerleader of the week (and probably a couple aren't yet 18) can't SI be charged under this law?

While cheerleading does involve sexual titillation, I'm not sure this case is an admission of that at all.

Let me put it this way: if a three year old girl is playing on a playground and some guy who doesn't know her is taking close-up pictures up her skirt and gets arrested, is that an admission that playing on the playground involves sexual titillation?

The guy was arrested based on what police saw on his video. That tells me he clearly wasn't shooting the routine.

  11. Good point, PC. I'm going to think on that ... my first reaction is that the police could charge playground perv with something like public nuisance or the like, but not necessarily child porn. Same with the guy in the gym.

I understand your point, PC, and it makes sense.

Still, I think it's noteworthy that if a voyeur is in search of panty shots, they're a hell of a lot easier to get at a cheerleading competition than at any other public event that I can think of.
