Frankly, I'm surprised it's survived this long. I can remember hearing rumours of this years ago.

Let's see, how many cities have multiple dailies:

New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Phoenix (??), Detroit (do those count as dailies anymore?). Heck, lots of towns are struggling to keep ONE paper alive.

    Phoenix does not.

Rocky Mountain News up for sale and could close in Denver.

What's the second daily in San Francisco? The Examiner papers don't really count. And it's a stretch to say LA is a two-paper town. Little Rock has a separate product competing in Northwest Arkansas, I believe. Tampa and St. Pete overlap, for now, as do Minneapolis/St. Paul and the Metroplex. Vegas sort of does.

Richmond/Petersburg? Not quite the same, I guess. (Edited because the tone of my first post was waaaaaay off.)

San Francisco Examiner doesn't count? Something happen with them? Granted, it's been years since I've been to SF.
