Some troubling news out of Chicago surrounding the Cubs' young star. According to WBBM Newsradio's sources, the 21-year-old shortstop was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his apartment after she blacked out on the night of Sept. 29.

Considering Castro is one of the young, up-and-coming stars in the league and becoming the face of the Cubs' franchise ... it's bad regardless but yikes.

Is anyone else disturbed by the frequency we read about young, talented athletes getting in trouble like this? Castro is suppose to appear at the Cubs Convention next weekend so it'll be interesting to see how the organization handles that.

Update: The Cubs have released a statement about the situation.

Let's get all this out of the way now.

She was asking for it by being drunk at his apartment.

Probably just looking for a lawsuit.

Why doesn't her name get dragged through the mud like his, when all we have is her word vs. his?

    etc. etc. etc.

Castro's lawyers say allegations (from the fall) have no merit.

Maybe I missed it but were the charges just filed, or is the story just coming out?

  5. Disturbed, yes. Surprised? No. If anything, sadly, I'm surprised we don't see this more often. Young, talented millionaires don't have anything better to do with their time, in many cases, then to get in trouble like this. Immaturity brought on by youth, coupled with money and fame is a tough combination. If this doesn't go away quickly (baseless accusation for a money grab) then it's going to get bad for Castro, especially in a competitive market like Chicago.

No criminal charges have been filed and the story is just coming out now. The police are apparently still waiting to talk to Castro.

If nothing else, it could monkey with his immigration status when he tries to come back for spring training.

Has Bobby Valentine gone into a seven-minute rant about this yet?
