I don't think teams care about having a black player, but they don't want the distraction of having the first black player.

Well, a player can't be a black player in secret.

This shocks me as a Kansas City guy. Although, considering that Brett and Jamie Quirk pretty much closed down EVERY hot spot in that city from 1976 to about 1983, perhaps Brett rolled with everyone. The assumption always was that he bedded every hot woman between Kansas City and Johnson County for about 15 years.

However, the rumors on Brett could add some validity to the hemorrhoids issue during the 1980 World Series.

Just read a extensive bio on Joe and it was made clear that The Clipper pulled all kinds of showgirls, bimbos, groupies, or anybody at any time he desired. He seemed leery of any long term commitment if anything, was very self-absorbed and shallow, and had a penchant for jealousy and suspicion when it came to his women. The lone commitment that mattered to him never had a chance to work since it was with MMonroe. He hated the Hollywood scene and hated playing second fiddle when she'd be mobbed in New York. He was set to remarry her when she suddenly died.
It's highly unlikely that JoeD was gay or even bi.

The Detroit Lions had an openly Gay player in the 1980s.

Then there was the American Family Association website's report on Tyson Gay at the U.S. Olympic trials:

He may be bi but I'm certain he likes women.

Three pages and no mention yet of former NFLer Blenda Gay?
This was one instance when a Gay was stopped from being a Gay.

His wife answered his alleged domestic abuse by slitting his throat.
