Rental car ass-raping

Dumbass me, I didn't look for a rental car until now, so it's my fault. I'm surprised so many places are out of everything, though, for Christmas. Cheapest I'm finding is $100 per day, and that's even using Priceline, Orbitz, etc. I think of Thanksgiving as more of a travel holiday than Christmas.

 

$100.00 a day includes their usurious insurance rates?

 

Nope. Including taxes and everything it's closer to $115 to $120 per day.

Since we're driving between relatives' houses, having a car would make life 10 times easier. For $250 for two days, though? I can pass.

 

Good luck sitting in the back seat between Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Stanley.

 

At 125 a day, I could live with that

Rental cars always seem to be stupid expensive around Christmas.

 

Anyone know of chains that give out good last-minute deals? Not that there will be many to be had, of course ...

I did some legal work for a major chain years ago. My contact there told me that they typically jack their nationwide rates up during the last two weeks of December to their maximum rate.
