So was I the only one who watched last night?

I definitely watched. Mediocre first episode.

"I just got a pep talk from Jimmy Johnson!!"

You knew he wouldn't be the one voted off. Didn't they show scenes with Johnson's face covered in mud? And his face was not covered in mud anytime during last night's episode, right?

Jimmy told my friend that he lost 36 pounds while taping. And that was after losing more than 30 to get on the show. I'm guessing jury at least, if not close to the finals.

I found it interesting that they split the group by age. And if I was Kelly I would've held off on telling them she had lost her leg at least until she got through one challenge just so that she can prove herself. Especially now knowing that that challenge didn't involve running. But the group I was watching with said that she can't wear long pants forever, which is true.

I knew they wouldn't vote off JJ the first epi but I don't think he's long for this world. And based on the promo's for next week, I think that's wear we see the mud on his face.

And I think I hate Shannon, but he's fun to look at.

If he lost 36 pounds DURING the show, he'll be around for a good while.

Unless he lost some of the weight while sequestered.

How does all that work exactly?

Probst said on his blog that Johnson had failed the physical to get on the show twice.

If he lost 36 pounds, he makes it at least until the merge. Granted, he has it to lose (not that he's fat) and a lot of players don't.

    No

I watched it once when they broke it up by race, but after the black guy took a nap instead of doing work, they broke them up an episode or two later, and I stopped watching.

They obviously had to engineer the challenges to remove some of the physical aspects. Usually a lot of the early challenges requires key components of strength or quickness. If they follow that template, the old team will lose every week.
I still think it's weird to have such a well known person in the game. Jean-Robert Bellande and Gary Hogeboom were very minor celebrities. You can't put 10 Americans together without at least one of them knowing who Johnson is, so within a day the other 18 all know he's on TV, that he won the Super Bowl, that he's a millionaire.
    It's weird.

I just read that the 36 pounds lost was combined for his physical to get on the show and what he lost while in Nicaragua.
