    My rule for stringers and part-timers is:

    1) Final score somewhere in the first three graphs.

    2) Never mention any other score -- the score with 47 seconds to play, the score the last time these two teams played, the score between Hootersville and Pixley, the score when the Chicago Cubs played the New York Giants on Sept. 23, 1908 -- before you mention the final score of the game the story is about.

    Once or twice a year, one of our full-time people botches it up and forgets the game score altogether. :D :D

    when you featurize your ledes, it's not that hard to leave out the score. should it happen, no? does it -- yes.
