If Patrick gets Reilly's spot, it'll be a sign that SI has really gone off the rails.

Does Bill Scheft still do a column for SI?

    jgmacg,

Did you really think that Scheft column was good?

I don't think I'd call it a column, really, and it was never a good fit for the magazine, but yes, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it because it was different, and because it required a certain amount of mental dexterity on my part to follow the associations and leaps in comic logic it made. I liked it because it was the same as listening to a really good comic doing material that was way too hip for the room, and that only the band understood.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Patrick got the back-page column. He's a name, and he's costing them plenty of money.

With a ghostwriter, he could be very good.

I know, I know, a guy shouldn't be on the back page with a ghostwriter, but if I was in charge, that's what I would do.

Would the ghost be transparent and thus given credit such as "Joe Blow contributed to this column" or would they go full-blown Jayson Blair on us?

    might not....

    He's awful on TV.

I've witnessed Reilly stumble through TV work.

I haven't seen proof that Patrick isn't an excellent writer... have you?

  10. I haven't seen proof that he's a writer at all.

I liked Scheft too. Never understood the bashing.
