    Regional Sports Reporter - 000100YB

    Description

Capital Newspapers Portage Division seeks a full-time regional sports reporter to join the coverage team for its publications and websites located in Sauk, Columbia and Juneau counties (in Wisconsin). The position will be based in Baraboo, Wis., about 40 miles north of Madison. Candidates who choose to live in Baraboo or the immediate area (15 to 20 miles) will receive preferential consideration.

Our newspapers focus on local high school and college sports and local recreational sports (youth and adult). Our location produces five hyper-local newspapers: the six-day Baraboo News Republic, the twice-weekly Wisconsin Dells Events, Reedsburg Times-Press and Juneau County Star-Times, and the weekly Sauk Prairie Eagle. Each publication also provides robust online coverage through wiscnews.com, wisconsinprepzone.com and social media. We also provide regular backup coverage and statistical support for sister newspapers in the region, including the Wisconsin State Journal and others.

    Qualifications

The successful candidate will provide coverage for multiple newspapers within the division as a matter of course. The focus will be on teamwork, collaboration, organization and pitching in across multiple publications. We value a candidate who can be depended upon to satisfactorily and creatively complete assigned tasks with a minimum of hand-holding.

Reporting, writing and photography will be focal points of the position. The successful candidate should be well-versed with camera and computer use. Line editing and page proofing will be a secondary but regular part of weekly duties. The successful candidate should have a firm understanding of journalistic ethics, AP style, accuracy, sports rules and concepts, statistics-keeping, interviewing skills and relationship-building with sources.

To be considered for the position, applicants must apply online at http://www.jobs.capitalnewspapers.com/.
When applying, attach no more than five writing and photography samples.

The application deadline is October 15, 2013.

Very little could be more terrifying than spending Halloween in a town with a clown cemetery.

Yeah, he's already got it showing on his LinkedIn profile. He's bounced around a bit, too, in his short career.
