You mean people weren't buying Rex Grossman jerseys last year?

Mizzou, the Redskins may have been #2 at one time long ago -- I would argue top five but not necessarily as high as second -- but that was while the Packers and Giants were in the doldrums of the '70s and long before the Patriots became a tentpole franchise. It was also before the mega-all-out marketing blitz around the NFL, so the news coverage was concentrated only on the really good teams, of which the Redskins always were one.

They could get back into that top group of popularity with halfway competent ownership, but that won't happen anytime soon.

There are so many different factors in play here... My main point was that playing in D.C. will help him with national endorsements, which aren't that easy to come by unless you're a Super Bowl winning QB.

When was the last time a Redskins player was doing "national" endorsements? Even when LaVar Arrington was at his peak, he was still a fairly "under the radar" guy. Mark Rypien was a Super Bowl MVP and no one really cared.

Well, considering there are probably only 10 NFL players who have national ads, they're not exactly easy to come by.

When was the last time the Redskins had a superstar player, much less a superstar QB?

Griffin will have national ads before he takes a snap in the NFL.

It probably was Theismann or Riggins.

  8. A lot of criteria can come into play in this so it's nearly impossible to have a definitive answer. But if you factor market size with fan following (and how those fans are spread out and travel to see their team on the road), the Bears have to be right in the mix.

And I agree that RG3 is going to be a marketing boon for the Skins. Magnetic personality with a lot of talent.

He certainly beats the Douchetastic Duo of Strasburg and Harper that he'll be competing against locally.

You can't mention LaVar and endorsements without posting this:

The Bears would probably be top 10... The top five (in no particular order....)would almost definitely be Dallas, Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh and the NY Giants. The next five (in no particular order...) would probably be Philly, Denver, Miami, Chicago and Patriots.

Raiders and Niners would head the next group. Probably the Jets too...
