The players are looking out for the lesser paid, lesser regarded staff that will be going with them and they're getting shit on for it? Really? Good for the players on this one.

The whole trip is stupid, just as it was stupid for the Giants and Dolphins to play in London last year.

Jayson does good work, but he's carrying MLB's rice wine on this one. They've been playing baseball in Japan for, oh, about a hundred years.

Listening to the ESPN play-by-play guy, he referred to her as an ESPN news editor. Sounds like she kind of got thrown into the sideline reporter role on the fly due to the circumstances.

She is probably down there on vacation or wasn't supposed to work today.

Maybe I'm just overly cynical. But I suspect this "sticking up the coaches" thing was really just a thinly veiled way of the players saying that they don't want to make this trip, or at least aren't happy about making it. This way, they get some good PR and get to make Selig and friends look bad (not that Selig needs much help in that regard).

I'd buy that. These trips just aren't "Beatles coming to America!" significant anymore. Look how the players got $40k to begin with.

That doesn't seem to make any sense.

No, it really doesn't. The Sox get the benefit of the doubt from me on this one. MLB players seem to be pretty good about sticking up for coaches/support staff -- the Rockies voting a full playoff share for Coolbaugh's family comes to mind.
