There's nothing to make of it. The Eagle is Berks County. However, not many people outside of Berks County have seen how good the product is.

So I'm reading that outside Reading, nobody's reading Reading?

  3. the irony of this all is that all these people in reading were cut loose on the heels of a four-part series on how to save newspapers. ha! so much for salvation. also to note is that at the beginning of april, lancaster newspapers announced they were ending afternoon publication of the new era, merging its staff with that of the morning intel (with staff cuts, of course), and putting out one dual-title am pub. they had been doing this on saturdays for about a year. at least they gave their people some notice. the new combined intel-new era starts in late june. anyway, the point being, a lot of quality journalists are out of work now in central pennsylvania between what has happened in lancaster, reading, bloomsburg and other places, and no one seems to be hiring.

Oh so true clueless. Lancaster, Reading, those used to be spots where you could stay as long as you wanted. Good people in those locales. It's just a messed up situation all the way around.

Believe a fellow SportsJournalists.com member -- and a damn good writer, although that obviously doesn't matter any more -- is among those affected in Lancaster.

I'm hearing one of the persons let go by the Eagle in a layoff round a few years found a job at Lancaster and then was let go from there. Now that sucks.

Heard the same thing. Haven't been able to confirm. When the Intelligencer-Journal is putting people out to pasture, you know this business is fucked up beyond repair. (FUBAR)
