    The NY Times unearths an old clip from 1981 where five newspapers in the U.S. undertake the mammoth task of digitizing their contents.

    Haha! It took two hours to download the entire paper! Awesome.

    And it cost $5 an hour to stay connected while downloading. The online edition cost $10 and the street-selling newsprint was 20 cents. Amazing.

    Quite an interesting find by the Times, considering the state of the newspaper industry.

    Early on, they say 'we're not in this to make money.' Now, almost 30 years later, newspapers are in a position where they have to make money.

    There's so much we didn't know then and I'll wager a bet there's still much we don't know.

    Absolutely incredible. Great find.

    Mr. Halloran's computer was an early Radio Shack model, not unlike the ones I was using in junior high computer class in 1981. We saved our data to cassette tape.

    FNF ... we worked on Tandys at my J-school. Amazing how far we've come.
