While I was on the field for postgame interviews the Regions Park staff closing the press box windows knocked my laptop to the floor, breaking it and my chill mat. I'm here on my own dime as a freelancer and will only get paid by the story. I did 2 hours of transcribing and rough draft work today on a feature due soon, and that document is probably lost forever. So is the file I started for preparing my case for my appeal hearing before a judge Tuesday, my last chance to have the denial of unemployment benefits overturned. I don't even want to consider the rest of the problems this will cause me.

The SEC was nice about it and vows to help me get reimbursed by Regions, and one SEC staff member said I can borrow a laptop overnight to file my (Web) story. But right now all I can think about is how behind schedule I will be on so many things due very soon.

    It really sucks.

I know it's nothing major, but I needed to vent t people who would understand.

Damn, dude. That sucks. Sorry to hear about the loss.

At least the SEC guys were nice about it and were optimistic about being able to get you reimbursed.

For the rest of us, it underscores the importance of backing up anything and everything of value.

Nothing major? To the contrary. Only we would understand precisely why it's so major.

As HC said, you're one of the great ones here and you deserve a lot better cards than the ones you've been dealt lately.

Your hard drive -- and, therefore, your important documents -- might still be alive. Hopefully that's the case and you can recover your stuff.

Yes. It might not be damaged. I know when my laptop was dying, they said a "data recovery specialist" would be able to access the hard drive and get all of my pertinent information back. You might check and see if there's one in your area that could help you out and fast.

Great idea on getting the data recovered...
Good luck with everything this weekend and this week with the hearing.

Sorry to hear JD ... like others have said, hopefully you can get the data retrieved from the hard drive.
    Keep your head up.
