OK so this just took a turn. Over on the main Rice thread is the news that law enforcement says it did send the tape, with a recording from a person at the NFL who saw it.

So Mort, King, Schefter ... they have to say right now whether they know if the league is lying, right? They're part of the story now.

Nevermind. I just saw the story. They're either going to make the woman a scapegoat or there are going to be mass firings and resignations.

I don't understand why Mort and King didn't stand by their original story. Just about everybody assumed the league was lying and had seen the tape, and now that could be proven. Why back off a story that's true? (To protect the shield and sources I suppose).

How many female executives does the NFL have who could be involved with this? I'm guessing it won't be too difficult to find out who left the message thanking them for the tape.

Executives or executive assistants, I'm sure quite a few.

Do you think an EA would have watched the tape?

I don't think making a woman employee the NFL's fall guy in this story would be a very good idea.

Wouldn't put it past the NFL to follow one blunder with another.
