Nationals’ TV analyst Ray Knight arrested for assault, battery in Va.

I got to know Ray a little bit during my time at D.C., could not have been a nicer guy. I also remember Ray and Rob Dibble getting into it on the air and Ray making mention of what he'd like to do to Rob. I think he's a former Golden Gloves boxer?

I almost put this on the journalism thread. One comment on the Post's website wondered why a misdemeanor charge was new, was Ray Knight that much of a public figure? I'd say he is and this story leaves me with lots of questions.

He's as homer as they come, which in the role as "color guy" on the pre- and post-game shows is pretty much what they want. But he's also gone after them hard when merited and the Nats merit it quite often. I remember right before Chad Cordero's elbow exploded, Ray (who was in the booth for the game that night) kept repeating, "This young man is clearly hurt and should not be in this game."

That link doesn't have his picture, in which an alcoholic's nose is prominent.

Yep. Was a former Golden Gloves guy.

Eric Davis learned this the hard way.

During the brutal 100-loss days when the Nats actually traded for Elijah Dukes, Ray mentioned on air one day that if they were teammates, he and Elijah would have "tied up." Ray went on to say sometimes guys just needed their butts kicked.

He would have obliterated Rob Dibble. I was watching that exchange when my wife and son came home so I rewound and played it, asking "did he just basically say I'll kick your fucking ass??" They agreed the message was clear.

Didn't know that Steve Physioc used to do either Reds or Mets games.

Interesting few weeks for the Walgreens. Assistant hitting coach suspended for revenge porn. Team loses to Cubs. Team gutlessly whacks manager only after waiting for him to leave town so they don't have to do it face to face. Now TV mouthpiece arrested.

I looked that up earlier. Split in 2009.

The ex-ballplayer's life is one of the truer cliches out there.

  11. Who's hanging out with a 33-year-old acquantiance at 4 am? At YOUR house?

Didn't he have a DUI a few years ago?

To be fair, it’s easy to throw a sweet punch when the umpire has your opponent’s arms tied up. Man, 80s baseball produced some of the best fights.
