Perhaps the single most significant event of the 20th century.

    In no order
    Jesus's birth and death
Whatever kept the Chinese empire from assuming control of the pacific coast of North America a couple thousand years ago and well before the European powers set foot on the continent.
The European "discovery" of North America
The fall of the Ottoman Empire
The invention of the printing press

No perhaps about it. Nothing was ever the same after that. Although, honestly, if that incident had not happened, something else would have eventually set off the Great War. Europe was a tinderbox just waiting for a spark, and that happened to be it.

How about when Franz Ferdinand released "Take Me Out?"

Oh, you're right. The event by itself was significant enough - the assassination of the heir to the throne of one of the world's most powerful empires. But of course it set off a cataclysmic chain of events, the ramifications of which are still being felt today.

    20th century only...

Worldwide divergence from the gold standard and the birth of unbacked currency and abstract/modern economy
Hitler's rejection from art school/failure to make it as an artist
    Man's successful flight
    Understanding and harnessing nuclear power/weaponry
The emergence of communism and socialist democracy

FWIW, I think the Great War would've occured in some form with or without a specific tipping point.
