Kaat was sold from the Yankees to the Cardinals in 1980 after Whitey took over and pitched 129.2 innings with 6 complete games at age 41. In 1981 and 1982 he was the long man out of the pen with 3 combined spot starts and made 103 appearances in those 2 years (the first of which was strike-shortened). Kaat appeared four times in the 1982 World Series.

I have zero recollection of Herr as a Phillie. He came up in the Cardinals' organization, became the embodiment of "Whitey Ball" (5 HR, 110 RBI one year) and got flipped to the Twinkies for a bag of magic Tom Brunansky beans.

I wonder how many guys have had a 100 RBI, sub-.800 OPS season.

He went to the Phillies in 1989, and stayed with them for part of the 1990 season. Phils had lots of those guys in that era. Jerry Koosman was another.

Bob “Death To Flying Things” Ferguson. He apparently was a good fielder .

Also was the first manager to deploy the shift and the first player to perform the hidden-ball trick.
