Reminds me of the folks who pay extra for an SUV with 4x4 and then it never leaves the pavement.

And so you can host big indoor events like the Final Four.

Probably belongs on the Journalist Topics board, but I was pretty surprised to see nothing from Bernie Miklasz on this proposal on the P-D site. Unless it's hidden somewhere and I can't find it.

They do have a Burwell column, but if your No. 1 sports columnist can't tear himself away from the Cardinals long enough to weigh in on this story, that's disappointing. Seems like everyone in the entire metro region has a strong opinion on this proposal ... except the guy that's paid to express his opinion as the face of the sports department.

What happened to that Pujols guy they paid a lot of money to last winter?

They ask for a retractable roof because it sounds cool, but, yeah, it's usually always closed. The Colts have had it open intermittently, but if there is the slightest chance of rain, it has to be closed because Lucas Oil Stadium has no drainage, and no weather protections for the scoreboards.

Eh, they don't NEED a retractable roof in the first place. If the Rams are whiners, let them leave and be someone else's problem.

Don't have a dog in the fight, but slightly related to this, Bryan Burwell is pretty damn stupid and completely out of his depth.

We now have undisputed evidence that Stan Kroenke really wants to keep the Rams in St. Louis.

You won't find that wording in any of the 39-page plan that was submitted to the city by the Rams owner's negotiating team. But it's right there in plain sight, if you are fluent in the language of between-the-lines intimations. And if you didn't see it, you're probably just too busy being distracted by all the pretty illustrations, fretting over the preliminary price estimates or part of the shortsighted anti-stadium crowd that won't be happy until we're living in a pro sports-free ghost town.

    And also ...

All the usual anti-stadium forces will try to convince people that no matter what we decide to do with this renovation, we're just aiding and abetting another rich man getting richer.

But a far more accurate assessment of this situation is that the renovation of the Dome will help us as much, if not more, than it will help Kroenke.

GIVE THE BILLIONAIRE MONEY!!!!! JOB CREATOR!!!!! WE NEED THE CONCESSION AND PARKING JOBS!!!!! IF WE LOSE THE RAMS WE'LL SOON LOSE THE BLUES AND CARDINALS!!!!!

Good gosh, Burwell has obviously not read any of the objective economic studies of cities paying for stadiums.

I have yet to find a study that shows a positive ROI on a city's money for stadium construction. Not counting, of course, the studies presented by "consulting firms" hired by team owners to sell the plan to the public.

Is the Edward Jones Dome as chintzy-looking as it seems on TV and in pictures?

If the Rams move (back) to L.A. my poor grandchildren will be so confused. "Wait, so the Rams, who are in L.A. now, used to be in St. Louis? And before they were in St. Louis, they were in L.A.?" "Exactly, boy." "WTF were those people doing?" "Good question..."
