Racism in high school hockey: Fans dress as Klan members for game

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Captain Obvious, Feb 23, 2013.

  1. Three people in the Grand Forks (N.D.) Red River High School student section dressed up as KKK members during a state tournament hockey game. The opposing high school is named after a federal judge, Ronald Davies, who ordered the high school to integrate.

Students celebrate the "white-out" tradition, but those kids knew what they were doing.

I have to call bullshit on that quote. How the heck can you not know that it's 10,000 kinds of wrong to dress like a KKK member. It's 2013, not the mid-20th (or maybe even 19th) century anymore.

That might be the best one-liner in the history of SJ.

Need to hash tag AQB's post with a #POY13 nomination.

That's one thing I really like about SportsJournalists.com - you folks are very good at saying a lot in a single sentence.

I live in ND. There is no blacks here. North Dakotans don't know any better.

Jokes aside, there is a serious disconnect here. There is no strong black representation and I've found many here who don't realize how some things are racist. They just think it is harmless.

That's the logo for Northampton (Pa.) High School. While Northampton is 98.2 percent white, it's about five miles from Allentown, which is 11.6 percent black and 10 miles from Easton, which is 16.8 percent black. And the Konkrete Kids play high schools from Allentown and Easton.
