R.I.P. Nan Robertson, a true journalism pioneer

    Didn't know her, but in a roundabout way, I owe a small piece of my own personal happiness to her. She blazed the trail for women in newsrooms all over the country, women like my wife, who also happened to be one of Robertson's students at the University of Maryland Journalism School. One of the first things my wife asked me to do when we started seriously dating was read "Girls In the Balcony."

    RIP. Have never gotten around to reading "Girls In the Balcony" but it's now bumped up on my list.

    And that was a fascinating obit.
