Sacha Baron Cohen tells The Daily Telegraph that he's retiring the clueless Kazakh journalist, as well as his alter ego, aspiring rapper Ali G.

"When I was being Ali G and Borat I was in character sometimes 14 hours a day and I came to love them, so admitting I am never going to play them again is quite a sad thing," the 36-year-old actor-comedian says in the British newspaper's Friday edition.

    Re: R.I.P. Baren Cohen's relevance

Oh well. He'll probably have to exhume them again when the money gets tight.

See all the "farewell" tours that have lasted forever.

Besides the schtick wouldn't work anymore since everyone knows who he is.

    It's a huge blow to post-modern smugness.

It's not really over until he has Ali G interview Borat.

    Or vice versa.

Folks, I tried giving Borat a chance...I truly did. It just was not funny, to me. Socially painful to watch, at times, but I never really just laughed at any point during the movie.

Maybe I need a different seat next time.

I give him credit for knowing to quit when he's way ahead...

There are a lot of actors out there who would have tried to squeeze another 2-3 movies out of both characters...

Did anyone else see the thread title and think Cohen died?

I think maybe this is like those Burger King commercials where they tell people the Whopper has been discontinued, so we can watch them have meltdowns. Will wait patiently for the 'back by popular demand, Revenge of the Borat!!'

I'm glad to see him branching out in other movies...

He was good, I thought, in a rather pedestrian "Talladega Nights."
