    I'd trust neither unless you trusted the person.

    But if you trust the person -- and you have regular contact, so you know it's from them -- well, it doesn't matter which medium the communication comes from.

    And in print, there's nothing wrong with being perfectly clear about the attribution. If it came by e-mail, say it.
