Had to go back for both of my kids. They turned as fine as they could for being my offspring. In fact, you could say they've already exceeded expectations. Nothing to worry about.

    First child you say? ;)

Just like everyone else said, relax. If there was something to worry about, they'd let you know right away.

I say this kindly. The best thing you can do as a new parent-to-be is to get rid of the worry at the drop of a dust speck reflex.

There will be enough chances to worry yourself sick. Don't start doing so over imagined horrors, k?

God I love the SportsJournalists.com nation. There are truly good people among us.

    Thanks all!

Like I said, the Mrs. Inky is more wound up than I, for I share many of the same thoughs as above; primarily, if it was something major we'd have been back the next day.

I think my wife had three or four ultrasounds.

Don't sweat it until they give you a reason to sweat. Kiddo'll be fine, brother.

We only had one ultrasound for all of my kids, but it is not uncommon to have more than one...

If the baby is sitting a certain way and they can't see all of the body parts and whatnot, they'll schedule another one...

It is amazing how flippant some of the doctors and nurses can be about this kind of stuff. To them, it's all normal work but for us, needless to say, it's a pretty big deal...

Good luck Inky... Kids make it all worthwhile...

Keep your fingers crossed that this is the most uncooperative the child is ever going to be.

    Best of luck.

Stand down, son. It'll be fine.

Babies have even been born without ultrasounds.

You and the Mrs. need to take a well-deserved break. Your not going to get another one for 18 or more years.

Wish I had followed this advice ... or even heard it. Made myself sick during my wife's pregnancy and was largely a complete mess. Regret badly that I was not a better support for her. Learned a lot, though.

I can relate to your situation.

Me and my wife are also expecting a baby in the spring (St. Patrick's Day, actually), and went for an ultrasound this week.

The doctor told us about things to watch for and scheduled another ultrasound. He mentioned a potential problem in kidney development that, 99 percent of the time, resolves itself in utero, and rarely requires surgery even in the worst-case scenario.

Of course, my wife heard this as, "Your unborn child is doomed!"

We're also scheduled for another ultrasound, and I think the doctor said something about a third one around 30-something weeks.

As a sidenote, my kid was extremely cooperative in the gender discovery department. We're expecting a boy who, based on the ultrasound, has my wife's beautiful eyes.

Hey Pete, sounds like everything is fairly normal. If they want you back in for another look sooner than you expected, chances are it's nothing serious. It's good.

Good advice here. But why not call back and discuss your questions with the doctor's office? Might keep you both from worrying yourself sick for 15 days. Go right to the source.

  12. My wife and I had a prenatal scare where we had to go see a specialist. Our doctor told us he was just being overly cautious and it turned out to be nothing.
Keep in mind that seems to be the attitude of most doctors when it comes to the prenatal stuff, because they try to catch things as quickly as they can.
